The chess24 Legends of Chess is the 4th stage of the $1 million Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour and features Magnus Carlsen and his predecessors as World Champion Vishy Anand and Vladimir Kramnik. It consists of two stages, a 10-player preliminary, where each player plays each other once, followed by a knockout among the top 4. Prelim ties are played as 4-game rapid matches, while knockout ties are the best of 3 such matches. The prize fund is $150,000, with $45,000 for first place, while the winner also qualifies for the $300,000 Grand Final.
The time control is 15 minutes for all moves with a 10-second increment from move 1. The winner of a preliminary tie decided in rapid games gets 3 points. If the score is 2:2 an Armageddon game is played, where White has 5 minutes to Black's 4 but a draw counts as a win for Black. A winner in Armageddon gets 2 match points, while the loser gets 1. The knockout format is the same except before Armageddon there are two 5+3 blitz games. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. Official website: chess24.com/tour

  • Official Statement by FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich senewss.info/slow/eLXcjcJ6sL28i8w/video

    • What happened at 4:29?? How did the white pawn move from D5 to E6 when the black pawn was at E5?????? There's a serious error there...

    • @Larry Kaberga No not "whatever" just like that, it is like the ceiling falling over your head in an offline finale game.

    • Heyo Agad, nice cover up/

    • @Larry Kaberga If that actually satisfies you, why would you care about competitions at all?

    • @Vivek Joshi if there's an immature statement in all of this, Vivek, it's yours and not Antonio's.

  • Prodigy Chess Players From 1970-2020 senewss.info/slow/aNC-n9Vnr93botQ/video

  • This same position played yesterday in skilling tour All prep. Vd had a chance to win but he did missed Bc5

  • Agad with all due respect Comments on something we are not completely sure is irresponsible

  • Come on man, you should mention the important details.

  • Good decision by FIDE Pres.

  • Russia for the win

  • Its not internet connection... it was server issue

  • For the disconnected games, in your opinion what was the status of the game?

  • Global internet outage was not mentioned.

  • 7:15 WHAT ABOUT ROOK F4 CHECK?????

  • I'm an indian, and boi the toxicity of indian viewers! Yes, there was a global internet outage and it's not like in the case of Armenia, but agad is also a human who might have missed something. Even if not so, he hasn't said anything implying India didn;t deserve what they got. So, calm the f down people. He is a good unbiased content creator, and should be supported for what he is.

  • However a great player Neppo is, it is more good for the game of chess and for himself, if Neppo is taught few things about being in humility and respect to opponents. This is what makes Magnus great champion.

  • What about rook to f4 check by nepo at 7:15 ??? He could win queen...

  • It was an awarded title, India haven't won it.

  • Why do you say sorry about that at every second move i actually wanna know

  • Chess today. The king is the president. Queen is the prime minister. Rook is general. Knight and bishop are colonels. The pawn is the captain / lieutenant

  • 0:28 I wanna know what he drops in every video and then say sorry about that. 😂😂

  • For those who are a bit ticked off at agad being misinformed - 1) I get that you all feel betrayed, but it simply is a human error. 2) To those who've decided to be toxic without fully understanding the situation, you're just pathetic. He's made an error and he's admitted it in an other video he's linked in the pinned comment. Smh

  • There's no mercy in online poker tournaments, or the stock market, or HALO 4, and there shouldn't be in anything else. f you want to win the ONLINE championship, you need good Internet. If your country has poor connectivity with the rest of the world, well then too bad, perhaps you can win your own country's championship, but not the World's. What's next? Participation trophies for all? Congratulations, you're all winners = congratulation, you're all losers, too.

  • At 7:13 instead of capturing the bishop, why not Rf4+ winning the queen?

  • 7:14 Rf4+ wins the Vidit's queen, not taking the bishop with Qxe7.. Rf4+ black wins

  • Chess controversy!!

  • In India match there was a global server problem. In Armenian match it was 1 or 2 players only

  • It isn't really fair, and this needs to be resolved and clarified. A disconnect is a disconnect. Whether it is the fault of your own Internet or a global server outage. And the rules should be clear. Now of course it would have been extremely harsh on india to lose that way, and they probably should have just replayed the matches affected. It isn't fair however to change the rules as you go along.

    • Ignorant. You sir are unaware of many facts, I suggest you watch the official statement of the FIDE president also should check the rules. There are too many inaccuracies in your comments so I wouldn't even try to correct you.

  • He didnt able to digest the gold.....Biased analysis.....I also wanted Armageddon as Russians didn't deserve gold

  • check check

  • India was in a winning position when they lost connection. Had there been no internet outage, India would have been sole winner. So FIDE proclaimed both as joint winners.

  • 8:47 microphone check check 1-2-1-2

  • Vidit cud hav tried Qg8 checks ryt ?

  • It makes me happy to know that there is a professional, top-rated chess player named "Humpy".

  • Nepo has a bot net and attacks Chess.com servers

  • I sensed a bit of an anti-India tone in Agad's comment at the end. For someone like him who researches everything before the video, I find it hard to believe he did not hear of the cloudfare outage but he conveniently left it out. And he showcased Nepo's tweet which was really cheap and below the belt in a justifiable way. And he seemed to cast doubts on Anand and Modi's tweets which were really quite reasonable. What more can one say than "congratulations" to a joint winner?? If Agad wants to continue such subtle commenting against India then simply Indians would start unsubscribing. Everyone knows what a big impact that would cause!

  • There was cloudfare or server fault. There was not any connection problem by side of players

  • We always consider our Russian friends are champions in everything. But declaring India joint champion may have cascading effect that spurs chess in every indian household. Therefore good effects on world chess that much is a small token of appreciation to land of chess invention

  • Why to capture the bishop when you can win the queen with Rf4+ at 7:13

  • 7:15 why QxB and not Rf4 winning the queen?

  • Agadmator, did you ever quallify or correct your video where Magnus loses because his opponent ignored being in check then checked Magnus instead? According to a comment [Mike Toleno, I think] the decision was over-turned and Magnus DID actually win!

    • @agadmator's Chess Channel Ah, cool. I never saw that. It was a weird 'rule', wasn't it? Keep up the great channel. I love your approach to showing and explaining the games.

    • Yes, the same day I posted the video.

  • For the first time, I found that your research lacked facts. Even i know more than you about what happened and what the official statement was. SAD!!

  • Why nobody is discussing the reason for the disconnect? Repeating three Indian players disconnected, is sounding more of a problem from their end!

  • ud1rtycheat1ng1nd1ans

  • Though Humpy lost 18secs She was just loosing

    • No she was not. And she didn't lose 18 seconds, her clock went down to 18 seconds due to the disconnect.

  • Looks like Vidit should have castled

  • Highly biased presentation, missing out major details about cloudfare and India's positions which are not hard to find. Presenting only Russia/Armenia's tweets is totally irresponsible. Didn't expect this from you agadmator

  • bad decision

  • In Armenia's game there was an issue in a one specific game, which if it wasn't the fault of internet or of chess.com too, then was most probably a momentary problem in the playing device; while here connections were lost in three games at the same time (and players were playing those games from three different locations of the country) and the server down was felt by manys not only on chess.com, but on the other online games too and was also felt in other countries too. And If it wasn't for the server issues, India would've most probably scored 3.5 in the second match or would've scored 3 points at least. So, the decision favoured no one cause India too could've been a clean winner. Obviously everyone wanted a clear winner, but still it's a win-win situation.

  • I love how he pronounces both indian and Russian player's names just perfectly

  • At 7:13 instead of taking the bishop can't black just play Rook to F4 and win the queen?

  • This may be a bit harsh to all the india fans(I am too) but there should have been a rematch.

  • Servers to Agad : 'Thanks For the save'

  • 10:29 Wow!! All this and an expert at pronunciation, too!! AND English is not his first language!!

  • Dude it wasn't that indian players disconnected due to their connectivity issue. It was a server failure. Also if this decision by fide was to to please Indian community then I must mention that there were 3 boards on wich indians has lost on connection issues in the group stage. Neither we filled any claim in that nor did FIDE was partiya towards india. It was an unfortunate thing to happen in the finals but it is what it is. If still you feel there has been some partiality then use burnol.

  • Yay it's my first time noticing a trap when Agad asks

  • anyone wonders what he does saying 'sorry about that'

  • All this 'pleasing Indian fans' is a load of tash. I don't think FIDE's president, who's a Russian himself, wanted to 'please' Indian fans, by risking the ire of his own countrymen. So, this tosh about pleasing someone in the finals of a global event is asinine. The decision was fair, considering factors like: match situation, global outage and improbability of unraveling what could have happened in the 3 remaining games, all of which were affected by outage (Yes, even Humpy lost close to 2 minutes). Suck it up and accept the decision. and yea...Nepo is a crybaby....being a great chess player doesn't absolve him of being one...

  • Divya was winning and Nihal was in 50 50 situation the match would have been a draw and last 6 games ended in a draw so to declare both teams as winner is justified in my opinion. About Anand's tweet he tweeted 'WE' (INDIA and RUSSSIA) he meant that some people took it like anand trolled RUSSIA it is not like that.

  • When rook f2 was played What was the problem in playing c5 then The queen and rook both would have been attacked Plzz cover the variation😊

  • both showing aggression.

  • I came to your channel after almost a year of leaving chess, and the first thing I heard was "Sorry about that" xD

  • And Both NIhal and Divya had forced wins too, if u could add that

  • Divya was winning and it was a server error

  • 7:14 Rook f4 check seems winning? You take the white kings away from the defense of the queen and then eliminate it and the check mate comes soon. Well, not soon, but it's like a check mate threat. Facing a queen and knight with a rook and bishop is not an option especially with the b4 connected past pawn Black rook f4 White king h3 Black Queen g5 take the queen. White pawn g3 (if not then check mate with queen h4) Black Knight c1 take the rook for free. White can't take the knight with the h1 rook because queen is protecting the knight nicely. Well, you lose the f4 rook, but a queen and a knight vs a white bishop and a rook is pretty much winning. You can also gobble up the white f3 pawn after taking the rook by knight d3 f4.

  • This was not just a local network issue. Infact the google server had crashed in the south east Asia region.

  • its gujrathi not gurjathi

  • @7:14 Rf4+???

  • Mentioning Modi and a half baked underground explanation about the matches agad I expected more from you...

  • Proud of you Vidit!

  • It was a server crash.

  • And it was in this position that nobody resigned the game

  • you should add that divya was completly winning and nihal draw so 3 -3

  • "Humpy"

  • One of my favorite songs about Russia, is by a famous youtuber named rucka rucka Ali. The song can be found here: senewss.info/slow/aLi-jdeYr9WlqZE/video It's a hoot, not for people who don't have a sense of humor.

  • India tries to claim victory on a declared draw is not out of character.

  • I have no idea why they didn't come up with something in advance (and stick with it)... Disconnections in online tournaments in something that has been happening in every online game ever played. They all have procedures in place to deal with it. and they follow them; In a poker tournament, if you disconnect, you keep being blinded out until you come back. So you're not eliminated, but it costs you. In a FPS tournament, usually the team has a pause button in case one of their players disconnects. I haven't see a (serious) game played online that had no procedure in place for disconnects. And if they had procedures but didn't follow them, it'd ALWAYS cause drama, and rightfully so. Also: Giving wins (or draws) to players who disconnect is a terrible idea that might get some players with poor sportsmanship to fake disconnects in the future.

  • Who cares what the reason for the disconnect was. Whether it was global outage, server crash, etc. At the end of the day, Armenia's disconnection was not their fault, and India's disconnection was not their fault. But they were given different treatment, which is hypocritical. Double standards by FIDE.

  • the day i saw modi in agadmator's video!

  • I wonder what song Agadmator is listening to while he gives us a couple of seconds?

  • why couldn't the disconnected games just have the same rematches

  • You should have mentioned Divya’s position which was completely winning and Nihal position looks drawish

  • It kinda sucks cuz that is not players fault...

  • Welcome to 2020 weird shit 😂😁🤣

  • What about C5? 6:21

  • I believe that India and Russia both played amazing chess (as you can see Russia had a small upper hand in the whole tourney). But Esipienko was clearly winning Nihal (If you calculate the score would be 3.5-2.5 with a win for Russia). If you check the C.C TV stream Simon and Jovanka clearly said Esipienko was winning as Nihal could Never castle without nasty tactics and whites pieces were Way more active and better- stockfish even gave the upper hand to him...

  • Why he dintre play queen to g8, avoiding the draw?!

  • did they disconnect in a "good" or "bad" position?

  • At least Kramnik's wish came true right?

  • *Ding Liren laughing sounds

  • To put it simply, online super tournament sucks. High level chess should always be played in person

  • It wasn't disconnection. It was cloud failure. Also . I personally feel Armenia should have gotten fairer treatment.

  • They must have played the disconnected boards from move 1

  • The Russian Fide President saved Russian players, fans and chess community from a probable humiliating second place in Olympiad

  • Agad Sir, with due respect please be careful when commenting on our heroes. We are tolerant people. But any try of misinterpreting their twit or comment will not be tolerated especially from people like Sachin Tendulkar, Vishy Anand and our honorable prime minister Shri Narendra Modi.

  • I think that the reason for Fide having the rule concerning disconnecting , in online matches , is that sometimes when a player disconnects , especially repeatedly in a single game , it's to cheat . I feel that the player should be given two minutes to reconnect before forfeit .

  • Subscribers Channel and Chess game video come soon😊😊😊

  • Wrongly depicted the whole incident( a server fault not a usual internet connectivity problem) which made the decisive match a controversial one , by Agadmator.

  • I feel like both IND-ARM and IND-RUS should have been replayed Why risk such backlash, should have been replayed the whole set of matches. Sounds impractical but feels better

  • Agadmator is ignorant

  • People seem to think that the reason for the disconnection is the sole motivation behind FIDE's decision; maybe it was indeed different from the other disconnections and a major outage. But that does not mean that the FIDE would have reacted the same if it happened to a smaller chess community like, say, Armenia. Agad is not being biased towards Russia or Armenia; there are just no defined criteria for a «fair» disconnection and therefore, the argument seems «ad hoc». Funny enough, the decision pleases one of the biggest chess community. This is business, a business oriented decision, not an ethical one or a moral one.

    • Much like the situation with Teimour Radjabov regarding the Candiates was surely not ethical or morally sound. If it had been another player, a more popular and famous one, maybe they would have reacted differently.

  • @10:30 agadmator rap starts

  • "the ruining of the pawn structure." "the pushing of the pawn." idk. this sounds new to me.
