The chess24 Legends of Chess is the 4th stage of the $1 million Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour and features Magnus Carlsen and his predecessors as World Champion Vishy Anand and Vladimir Kramnik. It consists of two stages, a 10-player preliminary, where each player plays each other once, followed by a knockout among the top 4. Prelim ties are played as 4-game rapid matches, while knockout ties are the best of 3 such matches. The prize fund is $150,000, with $45,000 for first place, while the winner also qualifies for the $300,000 Grand Final.
The time control is 15 minutes for all moves with a 10-second increment from move 1. The winner of a preliminary tie decided in rapid games gets 3 points. If the score is 2:2 an Armageddon game is played, where White has 5 minutes to Black's 4 but a draw counts as a win for Black. A winner in Armageddon gets 2 match points, while the loser gets 1. The knockout format is the same except before Armageddon there are two 5+3 blitz games. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. Official website:

  • Sound is fine

  • 7:45 my face when somebody says anime and cartoon are the same

  • "And here we have a bit of horsing around" wow bojack horseman will be proud

  • Audio is good for me!

  • Hikaru: Blunders Agadmator: lets just zoom in once again on the sad hikaru, rub some more salt in :D

  • Medo say hi after you give up.

  • The mainest of lines 🤷‍♂️ @3:14

  • 6:58 win the game for Hikaru?

  • 🤦🤣🤣

  • Just before this game started, after Yasser and Peter (Leko) were kinda critical of Hikaru's strategy in the stream, I was thinking, "But unlike Ding, I've never seen Hikaru make an instant-loss kinda blunder, more like inaccuracies and mistakes that add up. Not that that isn't enough for Magnus to win, but even so..." and boom, Hikaru proves me wrong. It's good to see that even players like Magnus, Hikaru, Ding, Fabi, etc. make blunders sometimes.

  • Ty for petting Medo!

  • Please further increase sound.

  • 3:42 "And here we have a bit of 'horsing' around."

  • 7:12 I instantly saw Queen d2 instead of Qa4. The idea is kinda the same, I think :D

  • What if rook captures on c7

  • Hikaru when blunders: oh my god, chat, I'm so bad at chess, so yeah... i'm so bad at chess

  • u should flip the camera, ur mole is too distracting cuz it sticks out of ur face. just saying

  • Actually, the audio is better in this video👍

  • In the position shown in 7:00, my guess was to move pawn to C5, attacking the bishop. If the bishop moves, Magnus takes the unguarded queen. If he doesn't, his bishop is taken by the pawn. Guess it wasn't as effective as the one made, but... would it have worked?

  • Love the shirt

  • I sat through all 100,000 "captures" but was disappointed. I really wanted to hear "captures, captures" 50,000 times.

  • I don't like that draw strategy, I think it's anti-sportive (like a box fighter refusing to fight)... but if it works, I don't think Nakamura cares at all about the "fighting spirit".

  • The sound is fine volume wise, it's just very "tinny"/sounds like its being recorded by a mic in the distance.

  • 4:28 captures captures captures captures captures captures 4:50 captures captures, the capture fest continues

  • Hey Antonio, quick feedback for you: Video quality is great, sound image etc. , just one of your many subscribers that dont comment that your videos are superb, but they really are. Dont get upset by people saying its not good, 1 bad comment is versus 100 viewers that liked it but didnt comment

  • Why won't Hikaru play with white pieces against Magnus?

  • HORSING AROUND! Ha... This guy.

  • What a disaster trying to listen to this game as I was driving. Agadmator mixes up Magnus' and Hikaru's names several times!

  • We can see Medo more clearly. Who cares about the sound?

  • Agadmator has grown so much. I remember the days when people would complain about the sound and he would fiddle with some off-screen knob

  • Hikaru had a problem with the camera and get tilted. Game 4 he didn't feel psychologically well to play, so he opted for a quick draw. That was what he told Levy and Anna Rudolph on twitch.

  • Interesting how for ever I've heard white has the advantage but both these 2 players cant wait to play the black pieces.

  • Why not bc3 instead of qe4?

  • Agadmator is making too many careless mistakes in his videos lately, I wonder what's going on. He didn't used to be so unfocused.

  • zoom in the emotions of a blunder..

  • Sounds perfectly

  • no sound issues for me

  • When will we get the ultimate match between Hikaru and Nakamura?

  • All of that.. for a drop of blood?

  • 3:42 Is this a crossover episode?

  • Nakamura blunder the game. Only one of two ways Magnus could get away with a lucky win. Of course the other way being Magnus paying off Nakamura

  • the sound is perfect.......

  • Agadmator blunders.

  • Nothing can compare with Hikaru's face after losing those memorable game vs Alireza Firouzja

  • the sound is not good here

  • Woah, that's not a capture!

  • The reason your audio is terrible is that this "vacation microphone" of yours has no bass and mid-bass, so not only is your average volume low, but a big chunk of the "understandibilty" component of your audio is missing in these remote videos. Your normal videos are fine, of course. I don't know the exact frequencies, but I'm sure someone could do a proper spectral analysis to provide the details. For years I have used, and encourage everyone to purchase and use, the Breakaway Audio Enhancer (v1.40.02) by Claesson Edwards Audio. Breakaway is a multiband compressor that effectively "remasters" your audio in real time. Set Range to 100%, Power 100%, Speed to 45-ish, Bass and Bass Shape to Normal. I use the "Reference Classical" setting on my old-school Creative Labs I-TRIGUE 3200 computer speakers (sadly no longer available) and "The Regulator" on my TV's Sony SA-MT300 Sound Bar. The point is first to find the preset that sounds best with your speakers and only then mess with the Bass settings. Once dialed in, Breakaway will change your life. It is Windows only. You will never listen to music again on a non-Windows device after using this, especially if you, like me, listen to music at a low levels while working all day every day. I use the exact same settings for SEnewss videos, of which I watch at least five hours every day. Of course, the most exciting moments of my life are when I can catch your videos with zero views! Not sure what that says about me.

  • #openindianstyle

  • Hats off to agadmator for snapping out the Hikarus reaction in 4 hrs of chess24 live stream.

  • 7.13 agadmators puppy found the winning move for Hikaru.

  • The sound compared to your old videos is rly bad.

  • This public humiliation with Hikaru's close-up was brutal.

  • #horseygoround

  • Okay, Bois, here's the thing: one of the best chess players in the world missed a fairly simple tactic and lost the game. So don't feel bad when you do the same! Know. Your. Worth!

  • 3:34 These moves reminded me of Fabiano vs Magnus WCC game 5 .It was really funny how the players kept manuering the knights that out of the first 20 moves 15 were knight moves

  • Sad Hikaru LMAOOOOO

  • Low sound

  • I think c5 would also win the bishop because it's pinned.

  • Ha ha ha look at the face of Hikaru. 😁😂

  • Sound is perfect

  • I'm just here to appreciate the comment section.

  • If possible, the following game may be explained.. Rory O'Kelly vs Jonathan Speelman Middlesex (1971) · 0-1

  • Isn’t Qd2 also winning in the position where he says to pause the video?

  • Nugaro can saved this game by giving his took, not understand why he resigned

  • Actually this line only threatens to win the rook but there is a better line: Rookh1* Kingc2 Qc4* Kd2 Qc1* Kd3 rookd1* ke2 rooke1* this picks up the correct me if i am wrong

    • oh thankyou so much.It was very dumb.

    • Nice way of thinking but white queen on e4 covers h1 so there's Qxh1 ... I think you 've missed that!

  • The sound is fine it’s just not as good quality as at your house (for obvious reasons) love the videos still 😍

  • Could you do a tutorial on various chess openings and the defences available against each? I dont think a lot of us follow when you say the various openings by name (london, sicilian etc) Would be really helpful.!

  • This "Sad Hikaru" will go in the "Best moments".

  • Hikaru: I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for that pesky Qd4

  • 😂😂😂😂😂man that hikaru face

  • See you all again when Agad reaches 1 million subs

  • A truly valiant fight as expected of the top two.

  • The man is making videos for us on holiday! And the sound is fine! Chill 😆

  • The complaint about the sound is just a troll we make to hear you say "sorry about that"

  • The Mainest of Lines.

  • The sound is perfect 👌🏽 idk why they say it’s not good

  • Can anyone explain what is the significance of playing with a particular colour , isn't the pieces are same ? What's the advantage?

  • Sound is perfectly fine ... But in first 2 games in your new setup were not that audible .... Thereafter it's perfectly fine , although miss your old setup

  • "The mainest of lines."

  • Cruel game

  • Sound quality is not good in last and this video.

  • Antonio challenged Jelena for a chess match, these are the moves 1. ♟d4 ♟d5 2. 💍c4 Capture (Jelena) 3. Antonio resign. Why did Antonio resigned? Medo reported that Antonio and Jelena went celebrating !!! Congratulations Antonio and Jelena. 🧡🧡💞

  • At 1: 50 can we capture pawn like that!?

  • Magnus is great but I love all the top guys in the chess world rn. Hikaru and liren are amazing and give magnus a run every time

  • Agad having too much fun with Hikaru's face lol

  • My sound is good,

  • Why was there no Friday arena

  • 0:48 agad is so genuine the concept of people trolling him doesn't even exist

  • I quit my 9-5 with the help of, *p a i d t o b e h o m e .c o m*

  • sound is perfect mate

  • Sound is perfectly fine

  • Video titles should be categorized as "Agadmator's Medo" (inspired from Schrodinger's cat)

  • The sound problem is your "Hello Everyone" is not loud

  • This video was fast, i didnt like it.

  • My interpretation of Hikaru's strategy is different. After having won the first game, he knew a sequence of draws was all he needed to take the set, so he went for the theoretical draw line in game 2. When Magnus won game 3, instead of trying to win with white, he used the same drawing line to force the set into Blitz, where he thought he'd have better chances than Magnus (after all he is rated slightly better than Magnus at Blitz). Unfortunately for him, his plan backfired. A bit cynical, perhaps, and arguably not very sporting, but when they interviewed Magnus afterwards he said that he has adopted the same drawing strategy himself when it is useful.

  • “Woah, that’s not a captures.” Agadmator 2020

  • hikarus face lmao, makes sense.

  • Hey agad btw and also for anyone having problems with the sound, google chrome has an extention that is a LIFESAVER for me so maybe you guys can grab it as well. It increases the volume of any tab you have open to up to 500% volume, so yea yall should get that, prob easy to find with a quick search.

  • agadmator: Hello, everyone! As you can see, this is a working vacation for me. Medo: I'm happy with any sofa. Just let me sleep. agadmator: Say hello to our viewers, Medo. Medo: Wha--? Huh--? Hey... I'm trying to snooze here! agadmator: Just ignore the sweat running down my face. I'm leaving the air conditioning off so everyone can hear the video. Medo: Who needs air conditioning? Just leave the toilet seat up and I'll be fine. agadmator: And it was in this position Nakamura resigned the game. Medo: And it's in THIS position I'd like to get some sleep, please. agadmator: I'd like to thank everyone for their contributions. I really do appreciate it. Medo: I'd like to thank YOU for filling my food dish. agadmator: How about a nice belly rub, Medo? Medo: If I was a cat, I'd be purring right about now.

  • Sound is perfectly fine for me.
