The chess24 Legends of Chess is the 4th stage of the $1 million Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour and features Magnus Carlsen and his predecessors as World Champion Vishy Anand and Vladimir Kramnik. It consists of two stages, a 10-player preliminary, where each player plays each other once, followed by a knockout among the top 4. Prelim ties are played as 4-game rapid matches, while knockout ties are the best of 3 such matches. The prize fund is $150,000, with $45,000 for first place, while the winner also qualifies for the $300,000 Grand Final.
The time control is 15 minutes for all moves with a 10-second increment from move 1. The winner of a preliminary tie decided in rapid games gets 3 points. If the score is 2:2 an Armageddon game is played, where White has 5 minutes to Black's 4 but a draw counts as a win for Black. A winner in Armageddon gets 2 match points, while the loser gets 1. The knockout format is the same except before Armageddon there are two 5+3 blitz games. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. Official website:

  • In this competition hikaru dominated dubov

  • When you're just too strong, You make a self-titled tournament. Pretty much similar to what *_PEGASUS_* (Yu-Gi-Oh) has done.

  • Beautiful play by Dubov. While Nakamura was bringing empty threats, Dubov built up a merciless attack. When I spotted the final blow Bxe5, I couldn't help but grin at how powerless black pieces are.

  • For the first time ever, I actually found Bxe5 without needing to pause the video!

  • please load other games in this series between dubov and nakamura. except this all other games are betn, magnus and liren

  • Never thought someone would crush Hikaru like that

  • 7:20 there is not a threat of fxg6....if black blocks with the bishop, the f-pawn is still pinned.

  • my blooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD floooooooow haaarshly

  • Omg how is this dude 24? I just looked him up i thought he was a 16 year old prodigy from the picture

  • g5 is such a shitty move.

  • I feel like I learn a lot when I watch your videos, but when I play a game later I don’t remember shit. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Hello my friend, I played chess quite regularly gets to 2600 EL oh rated computer back in the mid 90s but it took your channel to get me actually back in chess at age 60 so I can’t thank you enough and keep up the great work as you’re the best commentator out there right now and believe me I’ve done a test drive on most of the other ones. God bless and stay saf Tom

  • Never heard of this kid but he took out Nakamura. Nice. I look forward seeing him again 👍

  • "lastly but not leastly" - antonio, 2020 7:32

  • Brilliant match

  • 300,000 money what!!!!

  • I’m sure this was an easy one, but for the first time ever I found the move !!! Feeling pretty chuffed for my 1300 self 😄

  • I am starting to love chess once again ❤

  • Wow beating Nakamura in his won territory (King's Indian) like that ...what an insult 😂

  • Agad taght me: -Black or white can be: Better ABSOLUTLY better or CRUSHING!

  • The wooden shield is just too strong...

  • Great game ... Thanks

  • #analyze abhish Mathew vs vishy Anand

  • What if the prize money is actually Magnus' money..........making him work to keep most of it lol

  • 7:54 and now of course you dont capture the queen Me: dammit.

  • Dubov makes me gay, i need to kiss his cute lips, what a cute face (if i were extra gay I would talk about his jawline and eyes but that is just no bueyno) He’s like a genius anime villain or some shit or some vile villain bad guy boy from a movie

  • Nakaru Hikamura

  • #suggestion Tal vs Smyslov, 1959 1-0 Tal vs Jack Miller, 1988 1-0

  • Yeah but if Hikaru or Nakamura played against Cagnus Marlsen they would have drew

  • This was high level stuff.

  • 2:28 e3 by Dubouov

  • ah, i love watching nakamura lose

  • thanks for dubov/nakamura

  • taking down Nakamura like he's nothing lol. what a beast, this kid

  • Dubov and Ivanchuk are my favourite modern chess players. I really wanna see a game between them.

  • 2:29 By Duuubov

  • I really enjoy seeing Naka loosing

  • Is Dubov the new greatest fear of Nakamura?

  • How would Alphazero or stockfish have played black after the 10th move?

  • Where was the Morphy head?

  • Dubov pic makes him look like a serial killer and he plays like one too

  • That little voice crack of him saying 'Dubov' at 2:28 is hilarious.

  • "A lot of possibilities are possible." - Agadmator, 2020.

  • Damn, Naka just absolutely embarrassed in this game

  • Dubev is too good for Nakamura, psychologically Nakamura is scared of losing to Dubev and you will see in future too how consistently Dubev is able to win against him. Mark my words.

  • @1:48 why exactly can't black recapture?

  • Dubov deserves a Barnes head for this game.

  • wtf no notification man

  • 6:42 what if he Hikaru sacrificed his bishop to deflect the queen?

  • Nepo dubov old Ding Prabbumagshulu best players to watch. Caruana giri boring players

  • Hope evryone is having a nice day im just here to enjoy the show

  • Nakamura: wE bOtH pLaYeD tErrIbLe

  • As of move 10 we have a completely new game. And it is of move 17 the game was won. Chess is so stupidly insanely complex.

  • #suggestion# you should describe the tournament and its stages first... By a daigram or something... It would be good... And interesting to follow then... Nice game... Enjoyed😎

  • Why would you show this game? It's a "new game" when Nakamura plays 10. Nxd5 becus Hikaru said himself shortly after the match that he "fell asleep, and of course wanted to capture with the queen"

  • Most of the tournaments these days are just a story of How Magnus winss..

  • That was wild...…...

  • i dont understand why cant queen capture on a2 from 3:42 to 5:57

  • Magnus had to lose AN event just to make it eventFULL.

  • I've watched this match Live, and at this moment I really felt that this match is worth to be listed as 1 of the "Bishop from Hell" game.

  • At 7:50 why kd7, why not ke7?

  • İ dont understand why if you already follow and know the game yet request it :/

  • Couldn't all the complications from 2:00 to 4:50 be avoided if Nakamura hadn't played g5 at 2:00

  • Who won the overall match?

  • A forced resign? Thought it only happen to me lol

  • Regarding some of your latest video titles. I can't say that I enjoy you dividing the sentence and moving second half of it to the thumbnail. I like the idea behind this but it feels impractical as a viewer who likes reading titles. I don't know how others feel about it but I don't like seeing half of the title is missing after clicking one of your videos and going back to see what was it. It's even worse in mobile as there is some kind of auto-highlighter or something that removes thumbnail when I'm scrolling. I know there are solutions to this such as not being an idiot and reading everything before clicking the video and stuff, but what I'm thinking is. Should there be a need to find solutions for just reading the title? Other than that great work! Enjoy your videos more than ever. Just wanted to share my experience with this naming trend.

  • "Lastly but not leastly" Haha

  • The game is too short for it was in this positionerino agadmatorino to come and analyse the timeframe :(

  • Dubov is the most underrated player in chess. I honestly think he may become number 2 behind Magnus if he keeps this up. He’s just so good at finding positional gaps and doesn’t lose his cool when an opponent pressures him, just like Magnus he has absolutely no fear

  • 2:28 E3 by dubOV 4:16 agh bishop captures

  • Binod

  • Man... Dubov is a "sick" strong player ...

  • 0:00 Hello everyone 0:02 0:14 8:37 Grand Final 0:48 Format 1:06 Without further ado 1:32 Striking in the centre 1:50 All standard Nimzo stuff 2:04 Very interesting moment 2:20 Completely new game 2:31 Perfectly normal developing move, or is it? 3:04 Bust open the position 3:55 Captures captures 6:09 Completely lost 6:13 Give you a couple of seconds 6:24 Enjoy the show 6:43 It was in this position 6:48 Nothing more to be done 7:36 Lastly but not leastly 8:15 So yeah

    • @it was in this positionerino agadmatorino No comments and only 8 likes

  • I just love your backbencher.

  • Nak never wins on Antonio's channel

  • I found bishop takes on E3, but didn’t know how to continue the attack to force a win. Why was i relieved when nakamura resigned 😂😂

  • Hikaru and Nakamura drew their game

  • ' Lastly but not Leastly ' Agadmator 2020

  • That XQC momment when you forgot to develop the queen side for a direct attack!

  • Maybe he should stick to tik tok replays 😂 jk

  • "Help your pieces so they can help you" . . Tal: what do you mean?

  • Dubov was super prepared and stuck to his plan.

  • I swear, just about every game he uploads has a point in the first 20 moves where the game has either never been reached or never reached again.

  • Wow, Dubov made a spectacle out of Hikaru in this game.

  • Dubov is very creative

  • WOW $300,000

  • Hikaru didn't develop his queenside pieces and messed up his kingside pawn structure, it's like he's playing against a 1200 and tries to show off. Unfortunately, he played against a grandmaster

    • @Remnant The First my point was that he wasn't trying to show off. He knew the position, but just had a momentary blip and made a mistake

    • @Evan White so if you memorise 20 moves then basic principles don't apply?

    • Hikaru went over this game and why he lost. He just completely forgot the line that was supposed to be played. He knew the position, but messed up move order. He says that his loss comes from the knight capture on d5 rather than queen capture, which would be a good position for black.

  • Fanastic attack by Dubov..I like it very much to crush opponent like this

  • Ivanchukk vs Karjakin 2009 please!

  • Hikaru Pwned! Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.. so sad

  • Hikaru should focus more on bettering himself in chess we want a win in this grand final

  • Very impressive win by Dubov

  • 2:39 "YOUR KUNG FU IS WEAK!- Daniil Dubov, 2020

  • Day: is bad Agadmator: HELLO EVERYONE! Day: is particularly good because Dubov.

  • How did Ding get in? Was'nt he a bottom feeder in most of the tournaments. I know he is rated 3rd, but not in 2020.

  • Move 10. The move Hikaru admitted he'd forgotten his theory and was still half asleep! At least he woke up for the rest of the match. Though live the commentary at Chess24 during game 4 was the worst I've ever heard. One of the muppets spent so much time talking about one of the sponsers that the game ended with no one the wiser to how. Amateurish is the least of how I'd describe it.

  • I love it when either Nakamura or Hikaru cops a hiding on the board.

  • Why does Hikaru always play so poorly in the finals? Come on, this was obviously a terrible exposure of his king in an open position. Damn it, Hikaru, you can do better.

  • You missed a Morphy head here, from move 1.

  • 1:54 can someone explain why you cannot capture there, because he specifically says "remove the defender" but the knight is pinned??
